Al's Story

Life Hi folks. After High School I went to college at IU for a year then off to the Air Force. Back to college in 1976 and got a B.S. degree in Physical Education in 1980. Taught and coached and back to get a Masters in 1983. Moved to Florida and later to Illinois to coach and work as an Athletic Director. Enjoyed teaching a bunch. Back to IU and worked on another Master degree in counseling (1992). Moved to Oregon in 1994....what a beautiful state....lots to do and that fits me perfectly. I work as a Dean at Lane Community College here in Eugene. I am in Saigon, Viet Nam right now (July 21,2012) working with Viet Nam students who want to come to school in the U.S. I just turned 60. I will be traveling to London and then accross the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2....then onto Oregon. I will have completed a journey around the world.....and I love the work. I Love Oregon! 1 hour from the ocean and 1 hour from the mountains and great skiing in the Winter! It rains in the winter here in the valley, but the rain sure is easy to shovel. I am very active politically and work on social and civil rights issues working for equality of all people. I love Portland..it is 2 hours away and I visit all the time. I love to ride my bike every day I can....wonderful bike-ways here.....I bike about 3 miles to work each day along the river bikepath....really beautiful. Also just bought a wonderful cottage built in 1940....coved ceilings, hardwood floors, nice fireplace....lots of character. Bought a great Toyota truck and a Passion Red Volvo Convertible...love that car!!!!!!!!! Love camping, working out at the gym (staying young and healthy is WAY important!) and generally, I am pretty happy. My parents are no longer living but I do visit Bloomington every 3 or 4 years to see the rest of my clan. S...Expand for more
adly, we lost my nephew Terry Phegley this past January to alcoholism.....bad way to die and I miss him badly. We were always good friends and he just could not overcome the drinking problem. The day after Thanksgiving my sister died.... I was ready to say goodby to 2009.Now it is 2012 and all is going well. I look forward to another great school year ahead at the College and more opportunities to travel and enjoy friends. I hope life has treated you well and that all your dreams have come true. I remember my days at Linton schools and Bloomington High School with great fondness and you are all a wonderful part of that. Thanks for being a part of my life. Feel free to drop me a line and bring me up to date anytime. All the peace and love in the universe to you and the ones you love! Your friend then and now..... Al King Now 2016. College gave me the Division. Dean of Career and College Connections. I love my work and life. Looking to retire JULY of 2018 just after my 66th birthday. Want to finish writing a book and other creative endeavors. Lots of travel in my future. My life motto is "laugh, giggle and play" and I intend to do lots more of it. Once I moved to Oregon everything fell into place in my life and I consider myseld a very lucky man. Think of all my high school mates from time to time with a fond heart. I wish you all the happiness in the world. It is now 2021 and I have been retired for 3 years...loving it! I have authored 2 books and working on 3 more. I am self employed as a motivational and educational speaker and I love that very much too. Married now for nearly 5 years and I am the happiest man that I can imagine. Marriage works very well for me. Whatever you do my friends don't forget to "laugh, giggle and play" each day. Health and joy to all! Your friend, Al King
